Clinical Psychology Services

I am a Clinical Psychologist offering private therapy services to adults in the UK. I specialise in using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness based therapies to support adults with a range of difficulties including anxiety and stress, low mood, sleep problems, acute and chronic health conditions and eco-anxiety / eco-distress.

Background

I trained as Clinical Psychologist at the Institute of Psychiatry, and gained my undergraduate degree from the University of Oxford. I am registered as a practitioner psychologist with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) and as a chartered psychologist with the British Psychological Society. In addition, I am a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist accredited by the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). I am also an experienced Mindfulness teacher, specialising in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy.

I worked in NHS services for over 14 years and I now work at the University of Bath, where I offer teaching and supervision trainee clinical psychologists and MSc students, and engage in clinically-relevant research.

Approach

I am a warm and compassionate therapist and believe that the most helpful therapy happens in the context of a supportive and trusting relationship between therapist and client. I work in a collaborative way and ensure that I give my clients the time and space they need to better understand themselves. Many of us have emotional and psychological difficulties sometimes and I believe that these are understandable reactions to our life experiences. I am committed to offering evidence-based psychological care. My aim in therapy is to empower my clients, and to help them use their existing resilience and strengths to reduce distress, improve well-being and achieve their goals.

Climate aware therapy

I am a climate aware therapist. This means that I am am aware of the distress some people now feel about climate change and the destruction of nature. I am able to offer therapeutic support to people who are feeling this way or who may feel they may be experiencing eco-anxiety or eco-distress. The evidence base for this working in this area is limited, but it is emerging, and I am also researching in this area. I have experience in offering one-to-one therapy, running climate cafes with groups and using approaches such as The Work That Reconnects (Joanna Macy), to help people who are experiencing painful eco-emotions to feel less overwhelmed.
